How does the transcription work?

Does GeekBye store my interview recordings?

All transcripts and recordings are stored locally on your device in an encrypted database. Nothing is uploaded to cloud servers. You have full control to view, export, or delete your data at any time.

How do keyboard shortcuts work?

Press Cmd+Enter (macOS) or Ctrl+Enter (Windows) to capture your screen and get an instant AI response. Press Cmd+Shift+. to open your meeting report. You can choose from three preset shortcut schemes during setup to avoid conflicts with your code editor.

Storage migration and earlier data

What changes in GeekBye v2.0.21, when to encrypt earlier data, and why earlier profiles or history may be separate.

GeekBye v2.0.21 keeps profiles, transcripts, recording details and Google Drive settings separate for each signed-in account. New account databases and saved non-video assets are encrypted from creation. Fresh installations need no migration.

The migration prompt

Choose OK to encrypt earlier stored data on this device. Videos stay unencrypted.
Choose Skip to dismiss the reminder for this launch and use the app. Skipping does not undo completed encryption.

While migration is pending, the popup appears at most once per app launch. After three Skip choices, only the message at the top of the dashboard remains on later launches. Completed installations show no migration prompt.

After OK, progress appears in the dashboard. Skip during the work requests cancellation. Original files remain until a verified secured copy is saved; deferred files remain intact. If a step fails, retry or skip from the dashboard.

Earlier profiles and history

Earlier installation archives stay on this device, separate from account history. Migration secures them without automatically assigning or importing them. An empty history after upgrading does not mean the earlier files were deleted. Signing into a different account does not grant access to them.

Preserve files and keys

Sign into the same GeekBye account you used for the account data.
Keep the original app data, backups and operating-system keychain together. Do not delete or replace files or keys to clear an error.
If account data is locked, unlock the original operating-system keychain and restart. Signing in again cannot recreate a lost encryption key; a backup needs its original usable keys.

Google Drive is optional

Reconnect Google Drive only if you want to use it and its connection needs renewed authorization. Reconnecting does not import earlier history. Any recovered videos stay local until you explicitly choose to upload them.

Videos stay unencrypted

Videos remain ordinary playable files and never enter the encryption pass. Account access still controls playback, export and upload.
